Mixolydian, blues scales and Carlos Rios w/Chick Corea

Postby jrluke on Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:28 am

Mr Gennation, remember me and the Carlos Rios, Chick Corea Elektric Band: "Cool Weasel Boogie" cunundrum? I checked out the conceptualization of the style in parts of the solo. I'd love to pass this on to any experts out there to clue me in on a couple runs, for lack of a better word, that occur toward the end of the cut. You can't miss what I'm referring to when you get to it. That first flurry of notes have left me gaga for years and there's almost nothing about Carlos Rios online aside from his latest gig with Stevie Nicks. Thanks Mike for you attention to my Harmony Central post but I thought I'd try to reach you more directly and bounce it off everybody in this forum. I would love to have that first run transposed and for a long time player with little to no formal training write it out in tab form for this layman. It's for my personal education, gratification and even edification. I hope others may find this as interesting as I do and may get something out of my mission as well. Thanks to all or any who takes on this daunting endeavor. Jrluke

Hi jrluke, I would love to tackle some of this solo but right now my time is spent. But, in the next few weeks I'll be sitting down learning a a bunch of tunes and will take a look at this one and reply back either here or a HC.

But, to get you headed in the right direction regarding mixing scales to get that sound he's got going. I have a 50+ tutorial on this very thing. It'll open your eye to LOT, check it out here: http://lessons.mikedodge.com/lessons/Ad ... entTOC.htm

READ the Introduction as it will probably explain somethings about yourself/playing and how these lessons will help you, especially if you're a long time player. But this tutorial explains EXACTLY what he's doing/playing over dom7 type chords.

Use that lesson now so when I come back with his licks you'll see the big picture and not just another set of licks to burn out on.
